Whatever their background, whether they come from the United States like soprano Sara Jakubiak, tenor Brian Jagde, or conductor Kent Nagano; Australia like soprano Nicole Car; Russia like sopranos Elena Stikhina and Elena Guseva, tenor Najmiddin Mavlyanov, director Timofey Kulyabin; Lithuania, like soprano Aušrine Stundyte; Georgia like baritone Misha Kiria; Poland like director Mariusz Treliński; Greece like choreographer Christos Papadopoulos; Spain like director Calixto Bieito or choreographer Marcos Morau; Cabo Verde – and work in Portugal – like choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas; Italy like our Musical Director Daniele Rustioni, recent winner of the Conductor Award at the International Opera Awards; or France like mezzo Clémentine Margaine or director Laurent Pelly… the great artists gathered for the season are at home in New York, Vienna, Milan, London, Moscow, Lisbon or Madrid just like they will be in Lyon.
They are adventurous. They strive to shed light on the pure genius, creativity, and potential visionary character of the pieces they tackle or create, whatever the era of origin. They bet on the talent and curiosity of the Lyon Opera audience.
The Lyon Opera received recognition from its counterparts in Europe thanks to its outstanding projects and productions, which draw in seasoned artists as well as young talents. Indeed, over a thousand artists from seventy-four countries have applied to last season’s edition of the Lyon Opera Studio, a company for young interpreters in training. Over fourteen nationalities are gathered within the Lyon Opera Ballet and represented in Lyon and on tour.
